e2: Secondary Education for the 21st Century
An end-to-end solution for transformation in secondary schools
'The education system will not achieve the next step in raising standards simply by doing more of the same: a new approach is required.' - 2020 Vision, DfES 2006
Secondary education in Britain has its origins in the nineteenth century. The legislation that set the shape and character of secondary schools was framed in the social and economic conditions of the time. Schools were designed to be operated with contemporary technologies and teaching methods. And the system was planned to meet the needs of society as it was then.
Things have changed. The world we inhabit at the beginning of the 21st century would be almost unrecognisable to a teacher or pupil in those early schools. Social conditions, patterns of employment, the cultural context and ways of communicating are all hugely transformed. Yet our schools are still modeled on the template created over a hundred years ago.
If educators were to sit down now and plan a secondary education system from scratch, they would surely come up with something quite different: something appropriate for today's society, today's fast-evolving economy and changeable working patterns, and today's communication and information technologies. They would also factor into their new template the vast amount of knowledge about effective learning gained over the past century.
And that's exactly what EdisonLearning has done. e2 is a system designed in the UK over the past two years to help schools operate effectively in our world today, delivering an education that is appropriate and valuable to young people now - and in the future.
e2 helps schools overcome the limitations of the existing system by becoming more efficient with the administrative overhead, improving teaching and learning practice, creating a more effective structure for academic and pastoral mentoring, dealing consistently with student and family support issues, and providing a stimulating curriculum with a high degree of personalised learning.
e2 takes the best international research into what makes a good school and distills it into practical tools and methods that equip teachers and students for the best possible learning experience.
Above all, e2 is a coherent and cohesive whole, addressing all the inter-related elements that contribute to a school's performance. We recognise that as an organisation, a school functions as a system, and dysfunction in any part can compromise the success of the whole. By making e2 systemic and all-encompassing, we've provided the template for secondary schools to transform themselves for the 21st century.
e2 brings real transformation within reach of any school committed to the goal.
