Personalised Learning
Practical Methods to Make it Work for Your School
PLiP (Personalised Learning in Practice) is a school-based programme for preparing schools to implement effective personalisation in the classroom.
PLiP equips schools with practical means to make individual learning pathways a reality and meet government priorities on Personalised Learning, Student Voice, Workforce Remodelling, and
Collaboration and Networking between schools.
PLiP is available in versions for both primary and secondary schools available to schools as part of a school partnership, or as a standalone programme.
PLiP comprises both an intensive research and consultation process, and a software framework for gathering data and analysing your school's requirements. Your EdisonLearning PLiP team works with you to structure and guide the process, with advice rooted in research and best practice, and taking into account the data from your own school collected during the PLiP process. The virtue of PLiP is that it allows your own staff and students to shape the personalised learning plan to the unique character of your own school.
The PLiP process is typically conducted over three terms of an academic year. This data gathering and planning phase equips your school to roll out personalised learning in the subsequent academic year.
Right at the heart of PLiP is the development of 'learning conversations' between teachers and students. These act as a catalyst for powerful professional development for staff, and spur the students to take a greater interest in - and responsibility for - their own learning. Through a
collaborative process, your school will build a profile of learning and teaching competencies, which describe and support a deeply personalised provision for learners. This profile is supported by insightful data you can use to assess your school's personalised learning strengths and development needs.
By the end of the PLiP process, you will have:
- practical tools and methods for implementing personalised learning
- a clear understanding of the practical issues of personalised learning
- an implementation plan for introducing personalised learning in your school
- a core of staff motivated and prepared for personalised teaching and learning
- a seed group of students aware of personalised learning and motivated by its potential
- a clear framework and tools for gathering the data for continued analysis and monitoring of personalised learning in your school
The PLiP programme requires the involvement and support of school leaders and provides
opportunities for strategic review and planning. Each school needs to nominate a lead teacher to drive the project process and this provide a very significant development opportunity for this member of staff as well as for the school as a whole.
