HIGH-ACHIEVING LONDON PRIMARIES CHOOSE EDISON FOR FURTHER IMPROVEMENT

Design For School Improvement Chosen as Vehicle for Building on Success

Colchester, UK: May 29th, 2005 Two successful London primary schools have reached agreement with Edison Schools UK to implement Edison's Design for School Improvement in the quest for a continuing upward curve of achievement. Galliard Primary School in Enfield and The Cathedral School of St. Saviour and St. Mary Overie will begin work in partnership with Edison ready for the new school year in September.

Both schools share a history of success and achievement. Galliard School, with 660 pupils, is recognised for its leadership and good systems, and is about to open a new children¹s centre.

'We liked Edison's holistic approach,' said Rosemarie Hopkins, Headteacher at Galliard Primary. 'The Design addresses the whole school, not just a few individual parts like the management or curriculum. At this school we've made a lot of progress already; we're a full-service extended school, pursuing the agenda of schools networking together. Our aim is not to sit back though: we want to move from good to excellent. One of our priorities is to revitalise the curriculum with the core learning skills approach, to move on from the content-led methods of the past and for that we needed Edison's input. With Edison we have the benefits of an outside view, a critical friend and the rigour of well-trained professionals to make sure we're on track.'

With its exceptionally good profile, The Cathedral School in Southwark is also seeking to maintain and enrich its record of improvement. 'As a high-achieving school we want to raise achievement even higher and feel that Edison are best placed to help us do that and provide value for money in doing so,' said Sylvia Morris, Headteacher at The Cathedral School. 'Edison has been extremely professional in its approach. We had a good look at Edison partner schools in Essex and the staff who visited them came back absolutely convinced that this was the right thing to do.'
