The 5th EdisonLearning Network Learning Conference

"A thoroughly informative and enjoyable day and inspired me to take Edison ideals back to school"

Friday 26th March saw EdisonLearning's partner schools gather at the Radisson Blue Hotel near Stansted for the 5th Annual Network Learning Conference. The theme of the day - Achieving Excellence through Partnership.

The Network Learning Conference is a unique event that brings together schools of all backgrounds and geographies, who share one important feature - a partnership with EdisonLearning focused on transforming learning through new and innovative approaches to school operation. As managing director Paul Lincoln highlighted, "if we want to see a significant transformation in outcomes for learners, it will not be enough to keep on doing more of the same; we have to do things differently".

Networking played an important part in the day, providing opportunities for primary, special and secondary schools to interact and share experiences across traditional school boundaries. This was fuelled by engaging input from a range of partner schools and EdisonLearning advisers, focused around the concept of excellence in its many forms. Staff from Glenwood School and Southview School, two special schools based in Essex, led a session looking at excellence in family engagement. Members of the EdisonLearning team led delegates through the process of redesigning the curriculum to reflect what research tells us about how children learn most effectively, and leaders from Hamilton Primary Schools and Ashley Down Junior School spoke about the development of excellent leadership practices.

"brilliant delivery - varied and relevant"

Unlike so many other conferences, the Network Learning Conference is not a 'standalone' event. It is an integrated component of a longer-term collaboration between schools and EdisonLearning. Delegates learning from the day will be taken back to schools and used to inform future improvement activity, and new contacts with schools in other sectors and geographies will provide strong support for future growth.

"Fascinating insight"

At a time when networks and federations of schools are being viewed as critical to sustainable school improvement, the Network Learning Conference brought together what is probably the most diverse and innovative 'family' of schools in the country.
